It harbors the highest number of mountain gorillas which are found in four sectors namely Buhoma sector in the north, Rushaga sector in the south, Ruhija sector in the east and Nkuringo sector in the west. Bwindi has the highest habituated gorilla families in the world including the very first habituated gorilla family in Uganda. There are about 19 habituated gorilla families in Bwindi impenetrable national park that travelers can visit during their gorilla trekking adventures.

There is no doubt that the best place for gorilla trekking in Uganda is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. However for travelers who would like some bit of exclusivity and privacy Mgahinga gorilla national park Uganda is the better option because very few travelers go there since there is only one gorilla family, the Nyakagyezi gorilla family. The park attracts about 8 travelers per day leaving the park quite tranquil and serene.

Gorilla trekking experience

Gorilla trekking is a challenging but rewarding experience that involves hiking through the forest to find a family of mountain gorillas. Trekkers are therefore required to be physically fit and should wear long sleeved shirts, long pants and comfortable hiking shoes along with other travelling equipment. They will be accompanied by a guide who will help them spot the gorillas and teach them about their behavior. It’s a great opportunity to see these amazing animals up close in their natural habitat.
